Current Programs:
- InterAct: non-profit agency that provides services that focus on violence prevention to the youth of Wake County. Their programs incorporate a variety of grade-specific teaching tools and activities taught in a classroom setting. This program is for grades 3-5 and topics focused on are domestic violence, conflict resolution, self-esteem, bullying, healthy touching, and anger management.
-Funny Tummy Feelings: A self-awareness program for first graders that promotes self-esteem & helps children develop skills they can use to protect themselves & to make appropriate decisions in a variety of situations. The program is taught through role-playing & puppetry to encourage discussion.
- Theater for Change: Professional actors bring a one-hour, in-class workshop to the students through the use of self-expression enhancing theatre games, exercises centered on creating an open environment for a safe and comfortable discussion, student involved role playing, and in character processing. Topics include: body image, boundaries, bullying, conflict resolution, exclusion and peer pressure.
- Pilots of Good Character Recognition: This program recognizes each student with a character trait once a year. The seven character traits are courage, self-discipline, perseverance, integrity, respect, responsibility, kindness, and good judgment. Teachers recognize their students with one trait and those students are rewarded with a certificate at the Character Recognition Assembly where there is a guest speaker who gets the students and parents "pumped up" and involved.
- Backpack Buddies: Sponsored by First United Methodist Church of Cary and provides students and their families with food for the weekend for those that are "food insecure." Food comes from Adams PTA Food Drives as well as donations from the church.
-Grow our Kids Program: This program is for students and their families during Track Out who are "food insecure."
-Ambassador Club: A culturally diverse program that welcomes new students to Adams, helps bridge the language barrier, and assists with welcoming Parents during 'Meet the Teacher' and 'Open House.'
-Pet Therapy: Program that provides students with a relaxing and calming experience. We have two canines: Jesse, who is a 4 year old Cavapoo and Maddy who is a 7 year old Labradoodle. Both are certified and love working with students to provide unconditional love and acceptance.
-Kids on the Block: A program for 2nd grade that focuses on differences and areas of social concern. The puppet performance includes a combination of skits selected by Adams on topics such as learning and physical disabilities, bullying, and healthy eating.
Aarvy Aardvark Finds Hope: A puppet show for 3rd graders that teaches students how to handle grief and loss. The story takes us from Aarvy's feelings of sadness and despair to the realization that there is life, and even joy, after loss.
